Emory Winds Up Action At Oglethorpe Fall Invitational

The Emory golf team closed out its participation at the Oglethorpe Fall Invitational on Tuesday.  The 36-hole tourney was contested on the 6,792-yard, par-72 Royal Lakes Golf Club in nearby Flowery Branch.

Emory compiled a second-round effort of 301 to finish at 607, good for 12th place out of 16 teams.  Taking home first place was Spalding University with a seven-over par 583 (287-296).  No. 7 LaGrange College (293-296) and No. 22 Transylvania (296-293) tied for runner-up honors at 589 while 21st-ranked Washington and Lee went home in the No. 4 spot at 590 (298-292). Host and No. 2-ranked Oglethorpe rounded out the top five (292-299—591).

Freshman Connor Yakubov was Emory's top finisher, posting a 148 (72-76) that tied for 20th out of 93 players.  Sophomore Keenan Hickton shot a Tuesday score of 76 that put him at 150 for the tourney, tying for 34th place.  Junior Sam Nichamin lopped six shots off his Monday mark, finishing with the team's best second round mark of 74, while finishing with an overall effort of 154.  Freshman Noah Apter (80-76—156) and junior Colby Hipp (83-75—158) also competed among the team's contingent.

Emory had two players competing as individuals, freshman Anthony Muscato who checked in with a 150 (73-77), and junior Luke Lancaster who registered a 156 (82-74).

John Grimes of Greensboro won medalist honors with a four-under par 140 (69-71), one shot better than runner-up Nicholas McCarthy of Transylvania (68-73).
