Emory Finishes Fourth At Spring Invitational

The No. 13-ranked Emory golf team closed out participation at its Spring Invitational on Monday afternoon, posting a fourth-place finish out of 13 teams. The 36-hole tourney was played at the 6,510-yard, par-70 Smoke Rise Country Club in nearby Stone Mountain.

The Eagles recorded a second-round score of 291 to finish the tourney with a mark of 291.  No. 8-ranked Huntingdon used a stellar Monday performance of two-under par 278 to take home first-place honors with an effort of 572, six shots ahead of runner-up Oglethorpe University.  No. 7 Rhodes College edged Emory for third place with a 584 (296-288) while No. 6 Wittenberg rounded out the top five with a showing a 591 (301-290).

For the second-straight day, freshman Connor Yakubov fired Emory's top score with his one-over par 71 leaving him with a final mark of 141, good for third place in the 80-player field. Freshmen Noah Apter and Stefano Butti each carded 73s while rookie Anthony Muscato closed out the Eagles' second-round scorers with a 74. Sophomore Keenan Hickton totaled a 75. 

For the tournament, Muscato ranked second among the Emory contingent and tied for 11th on the leader board with a 145.  Butti finished at 148, tying for 21st, while Hickton and Apter checked in at 153 and 156, respectively.

Senior Jonathan Gerrard (86-82—168) and freshman Matt Csillag (87-83) competed as individuals.

Addison Lambeth of Huntingdon College was the runaway medalist honors with a blistering seven-under par 133 (67-66), seven shots ahead of Guilford College's Tommy Schick. 

One of the Tuesday highlights included a hole-in-one by Greensboro College's Luke Grogan on the 190-yard, par-3 17th hole.

Emory returns to action, April 16-17, when it competes in the Navy Spring Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland.
