Violets Finish Fifth at NYU Invitational

From NYU Athletics

New York University's men's golf team tied for fifth place at the NYU Invitational, which the Violets hosted at the Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, NJ, on Saturday and Sunday, October 10-11.

The Violets shot 643 overall after shooting 324 on Sunday to finish three strokes behind fourth-place Hamilton College and eight strokes ahead of seventh-place Johnson & Wales University. Manhattanville College also shot 643.

Skidmore College won the Invitational with an overall team score of 603 (301-302). Coming in second was Stevens Institute of Technology with a weekend score of 628 (307-321).

Overall, nine teams and 52 golfers competed over the par-71, 6,656-yard course.

"One of the best-played tournaments of the year," said Head Coach Todd Kolean. "Our top players pressed a bit today trying to make up a few strokes, and nine times out of 10 your game will not work when you press like that."

Hamilton's Joe Tigani, who finished second in the pack on Saturday with a 73, repeated his performance with another 73 on Sunday and finished with an overall score of 146 to win the individual championship. Skidmore's Mackenzie Nelson finished right behind Tigani with a score of 147.

Bryce Holmes was the Violets' low scorer overall, shooting 151 (78-73) over the weekend playing as an individual. He finished tied for fourth with Skidmore's Denis Biglin.

Christopher Nolte tied for seventh as an individual with an overall score of 153 after shooting 79 on Sunday.

"Individuals, led by Bryce Holmes, played well today," Kolean said. "I couldn't be more proud of him. He always had that game and was able to put it together today."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Daniel Lynch, also playing as an individual, finished tied for 10th with an overall score of 154. He shot a 77 on both Saturday and Sunday

- NYU scorers Eric Tarakjian and Lucas Oberholtzer finished tied for 16th with weekend scores of 158.

- Paul Park tied for 25th place after shooting 82 on Sunday and finishing with a score of 163.

"We could have scored better, but we are a young team and this will help them learn," Kolean concluded.
