From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team opened play in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday, May 16. The Tartans fired a team score of 327 on the par-72, 6,844-yard El Campeón Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Huntingdon College leads the championships after the opening round of play with a five-over-par 293.
    
Senior George Qian (Bettendorf, Iowa/Montverde Academy) led the Tartans with a four-over par 76 on Tuesday. Classmate Brad Jennette (Pittsford, N.Y./ Pittsford Sutherland) and junior Nikhil Mohan(Bangalore, India/Canadian International School) entered the clubhouse with an 81. Junior Adrian Del Bosque (Monterrey, Mexico/IMG Academy) carded an 89 and sophomore Patrick Tan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Prince of Wales Secondary) finished with a 92.

Play resumes Wednesday, May 17, as the Tartans will play the Las Colinas Course. The Tartans tee times are set to begin at 12:00 p.m. with Del Bosque the first out on the par-72, 6,888-yard course. Following Thursday's round, the field will be pared to 18 teams and the top six individuals. The final two days of action will take place on the El Campeón Course.
