The New York University men's golf team won the St. Lawrence University Invitational on Sunday, September 4, at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course in Canton, NY. The Violets were in second place after Saturday's first round and were able to jump up the leaderboard on day two of the event.

NYU accumulated a score of 614 (38-over-par) after shooting 304 (16-over-par) on Sunday. Clarkson University, Saturday's leader, dropped to fourth to trail Hamilton College and host St. Lawrence University.

"It was a team effort," said NYU Head Coach Brad Johnson in his first-ever tournament leading the Violets. "No one individual took over. We have a great team. Everyone contributed. It was awesome."

Freshman Jensen Li led the Violets over the weekend by shooting a team-best 73 on Sunday and a 151 over the two rounds, placing him in a three-way tie for fifth.

"The crazy thing is we are all young," Johnson stated. "Eric (Tarakjian) is our only senior. It's incredible. They are super young, and they all work hard. We are going to be able to really mold them to be where we want them to be."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Tarakjian finished in 10th after posting a score of 74 Sunday and shooting 80 on Saturday.

- Sophomore Qizhi Wong followed right behind in 11th with a final score of 155.

- Next in line was freshman Kelly Sun coming in 12th (156). He shot 81 on Sunday to follow up his 75 on day one.

"Hopefully we can carry the momentum from this weekend to the next tournament," added Johnson. "We still have work to do and can improve, but things are looking good."
