Coming off a third-place finish at the University Athletic Association Championship, the New York University men's golf team is participating in the Jekyll Island Men's Collegiate Invitational on Jekyll Island, Ga. This is the squad's first time participating in the tournament, which is taking place Friday-Sunday, March 16-18.

The first round took place on Friday, and the Violets are currently sitting in 11th place, after shooting a 299. They are 11 strokes behind first-place Illinois Wesleyan University (288) and nine strokes behind second-place Kenyon College (290).

Individually, Matt Shen and Kelly Sun both shot 74 and are tied for 28th place. Robbie Keyes (75), Patrick McNary (76) and Luke Oberholtzer (80) are currently in 43rd, 59th, and 115th place, respectively, out of 146 golfers.

"The two sophomores held the team together," said Head Coach Brad Johnson, "Matt had five birdies today and has been very solid these past two tournaments, while Kelly was excellent all around."
