Senior defender Nik Patel was named to the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Division Men's Scholar All-North/Central Region First Team, as announced by the NSCAA. Washington University in St. Louis was also among 275 men's college soccer teams recognized with the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year.

Patel, a second-team NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Central Region and honorable mention all-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection, started 15 of 16 games played in 2013. He helped anchor the Bears' back line to five shutouts. Patel scored the first goal of his career and added an assist to help Washington U. rally for a 4-3 overtime UAA win at the University of Chicago Nov. 9. He played in 66 career matches, making 61 starts, and helped Washington U. record shutouts in 32 of those contests. A 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Five honoree, Patel holds a 3.54 GPA while majoring in biochemistry.

Washington University posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.41, which was tied for 14th among all divisions. NCAA Division II Lynn University led all divisions with a 3.64 team GPA. A total of 875 college soccer teams (275 men, 600 women) posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year. In addition to Washington U., five other UAA schools also made the list of Team Academic Award winners – Brandeis University (3.27), Carnegie Mellon University (3.31), Case Western Reserve University (3.43), Chicago (3.41) and University of Rochester (3.32).

The Washington University men's soccer team finished the season with a 10-4-3 record and a 3-2-2 mark in the UAA. The Bears went 3-0-1 in their final four contests to record their fourth 10-win season in a row.
