Freshman forward Michael Balog (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) and junior midfielder Chris Cvecko (Erie, Pa./McDowell) each scored goals as the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team defeated Hiram College, 2-0, on Wednesday night at DiSanto Field.

With the win, the Spartans boost their overall mark to 6-3-1, while Hiram falls to 5-6-0.  CWRU also improves its home record to 4-0.

Following a first half that featured no goals and just one shot on goal by each team, the Spartans broke through in the 48th minute. Balog scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season by evading a Hiram defender in the box and chipping a shot past goalkeeper Chris Lindemeyer into the top right corner of the net.

Balog set up a second tally for the Spartans in the 71st minute, connecting with Cvecko on a pass in the box. Cvecko powered a shot off the hands of Lindemeyer into the net for his fifth marker of the season. Cvecko has scored all five of his goals in the last six games.

For the Spartans, freshman goalkeeper Calvin Boyle (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) made two saves to earn his fifth win of the season. All but one of the six CWRU victories this season have been shutouts. Lindemeyer made one save in one half of action for Hiram, splitting time with Matt Sacher.

CWRU led in corner kick attempts, 4-1 and shots, 10-7.
