NYU Posts Comeback Win in Season Opener

NYU Posts Comeback Win in Season Opener

From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's soccer team scored two second-half goals to overcome an early deficit and defeat Hunter College 2-1 on Tuesday, September 1, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

It was the first contest of the 2015 season for both teams.

Hunter (0-1) scored the first goal of the game almost immediately after it began. Brandon Fiscina took a pass from Fausto Perez, ran down the right side and chipped the ball over NYU junior goalkeeper Lucas Doucette after only 20 seconds had been played.

Neither team scored again until NYU (1-0) freshman Robert Shellow lifted a shot over the head of Hawks' goalkeeper Garrett Babbitt from approximately 35 yards out with just over 17 minutes left in the game. Just six minutes later, sophomore Malcolm Montilus scored the game-winner after taking a pass from junior captain Petter Aasa and finding himself all alone for the short-distance clincher.

"We got a great goal from Shellow," Head Coach Joe Behan. "And we started winning balls in the air. That was a key factor in the comeback."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Aasa also recorded an assist on Shellow's goal.

- Doucette finsihed with five saves.

"We kept fighting, even when we were down, and it paid off in the end," said NYU Assistant Coach Jefferson Baum.
