Jack West’s First-Half Goal Holds up in 1-0 Bears' Win at Illinois Wesleyan

The No. 18-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to six games with a 1-0 win at Illinois Wesleyan University Friday night in Bloomington, Ill.

WashU improves to 5-1-2 with the win, while Illinois Wesleyan fell to 3-4-1.

The Bears scored first for the third-straight contest after senior Jack West netted a goal off an assist from junior Corey Meehan in the 12th minute to make it 1-0. The goal for West was his team-leading fourth of the season and 12th of his career.

The Bears nearly added another goal in the 20th minute after freshman Ryan Sproule hit the post.

WashU outshot Illinois Wesleyan 20-11 and had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Juniors Daniel Geanon (three saves) and Nick Tannenbaum (two saves) split time in goal as WashU posted its third shutout of the season.

WashU opens a two-game home stand Tuesday, Sept. 29, against Webster University. Game time is set for 7 p.m., and will be Sophomore Spirit Day.

BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with Illinois Wesleyan 13-0-2, and the Bears have won four-straight meetings … WashU improved to 4-0 on the road … The game-winning goal for West was his third this season and seventh of his career … The Bears have scored 13 of their 16 goals in the first half.
