Zach Vieira Guides Brandeis Past Lasell, 2-0

From Brandeis University Athletics

Senior forward Zach Vieira (Andover, Mass./Brooks School) registered a goal and an assist today to lead the Brandeis University men's soccer team past their local rivals from Lasell College, 2-0, in the final non-conference match of the season for both teams. The Judges earned their third win in a row to improve to 8-4-3 on the season, while the Lasers' campaign comes to a close with a 1-17 record.

Brandeis dominated the statsheet, owning a 38-0 edge in shots, including 20 attempts on net. The margin was 15-0 in shots in the first half, but the Judges didn't break through until the second stanza. The Judges opened the scoring in the 48th minute, when Vieira headed the ball through the box. Sophomore Andrew Allen (Norfolk, Mass./King Phillip Regional) was there to finish for his third goal of the season and second game-winner.

Despite the shooting advantage for the Judges, it looked as if the contest between the two teams would finish as 1-0 game for the third year in a row before Vieira finished a corner kick from senior Josh Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./Worcester Acad.) in the 85th minute.

The three-point game was the third of Vieira's career and first since his sophomore campaign. With the late helper, Ocel registered his 26th career assist, moving him into a tie for fourth place on Brandeis's all-time list, matching Allen's father, Greg '86.

Lasell was kept in the game by rookie Jackson Burhans, who made a career-high 18 saves.
