In the opening conference game of the season, the University of Chicago men's soccer team scored early and late to defeat Emory University 2-0 on the road on Saturday.

The No. 3-ranked Maroons maintained their perfect record, improving to 11-0 overall and 1-0 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Eagles fell to 5-3 overall, 0-1 in league play.

Four days after allowing a season-high two goals in a win over Carthage College, UChicago's defense tightened up and proved impregnable once more. The Maroons collected their ninth shutout of the year and have outscored opponents 32-3.

The visitors took the first four shots of the game, with senior forward Brenton Desai providing the go-ahead strike at the 19:51 mark. Desai struck a shot from 18 yards to the upper right corner of the net for his fourth goal of the campaign and the 28th goal of his career.

Emory had two of its shots blocked in the final minute of the first half and two header shots early in the second half were saved. Shots ended pretty evenly with UChicago leading 12-10 for the game.

The Maroons maintained its one-goal advantage the rest of the way until the Dayo Adeosun scored from inside six yards with only 30 seconds remaining in the match. The freshman forward ranks second on the team with five goals to his credit.

Junior goalkeeper Hill Bonin (11-0) submitted a clean sheet with three saves on his ledger. Corner kicks ended up 5-3 in favor of Emory.
