Emory Wins Fourth Consecutive Match; Blanks Carthage 3-0

From Emory University Athletics

The Emory University Men's Soccer team pushed its winning streak to four games on Saturday afternoon, blanking Carthage College, 3-0, at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.

The Eagles did all their damage in the first half, scoring all three goals in the first 30 minutes including two within the opening 15 minutes of play.

Junior Moustafa Khattab began the scoring in the 10th minute as he gained possession following a Carthage turnover and fired home a shot into the far corner from 22 yards out.

Senior Adam Ferguson doubled the Emory lead just over four minutes later as he blasted in a shot from the top of the box off the feed from classmate Jason McCartney. The goal was Ferguson's first of the season.

Poor play defensively by the Red Men led to Emory's third goal in the 30th minute. McCartney played a ball towards the center of the box that deflected off a Carthage defender and went towards the goalkeeper. Carthage's GK mishandled the ball, bobbling it across the end line. McCartney was credited with the tally, giving him a team-leading five goals on the season.

Freshman Cole Gallagher made two saves in his 77:09 minutes of action, improving to 4-1 on the season. Sophomore Trevor Stormes played a clean final 12:51 as the pair combined for Emory's third consecutive shutout and fifth overall in 2017.
