NYU Remains Unbeaten With Blanking of SUNY Maritime

From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 6-0 victory over previously-unbeaten SUNY Maritime (5-1-1) on Saturday, September 16, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

The Violets (4-0-1) are off to their best start since beginning the 2014 season 6-0.

NYU got started quickly on Saturday as Drew Enyedi scored just 8:57 into the contest. He took a through pass from Richie Rambarran, and from the right side of the box blasted it past Privateer keeper Michael Rodriguez into the left corner.

The Violets increased their lead to 2-0 at 26:53 on Pedro Goldberg's first collegiate goal. The freshman corralled a loose ball following a corner kick and shot it in from the top of the box.

The offensive barrage continued for the home squad at 38:49 as Inder Sharma scored his first of the season after finishing off a pretty give-and-go with Goldberg.

Then, at 40:39, Rambarran completed the first-half scoring when he broke away from the Maritime defenders following a pass from Ricardo Mitrano and put the ball past Rodriguez inside the left post.

"Our goal is to get on our opponents quickly and score early," explained Head Coach Kim Wyant.

The onslaught continued in the second half as Jake Velvel scored his first career goal for NYU. He took a pass from Robert Shellow and tickled the twines from the top of the box at 52:02.

The scoring was capped at 83:23 when Marc Waldeck, making his first appearance of the season, scored on a header off a pass from Carter Altman.

Grant Engel did not need to make a save in recording his second shutout of the season.

"Our guys come out every day and practice hard, so it's really good for team chemistry when so many people have a chance to contribute," Wyant said. "We have a lot of depth and any player we bring off the bench is at the same level as our starters if not better.

NET-ABLES:

- The Violets outshot the Privateers 20-3 overall and 8-0 in shots on goal.

- NYU had four corner kicks, while Maritime was shutout in that category.
