Carter Romero Delivers Game-Winner in 3-0 Chicago Win at NYU

From University of Chicago Athletics

First-year Carter Romero scored the game-winner in the 28th minute and the No. 7 University of Chicago men's soccer team didn't look back en route to Friday's 3-0 conference victory at host New York University.

The Maroons (14-2, 4-1-0 University Athletic Association) captured their third straight league win with the result, as UChicago heads to No. 19 Brandeis University on Sunday to conclude its final regular-season road trip.

Romero connected on his fifth score of his career midway through the first half, benefiting from an assist into the box from senior teammate Andre Abedian. The Maroons would add another goal just before the break, when sophomore Gary Zhao netted his second goal of the season in the 39th. Sophomore Tommy Tenuta assisted on the play to help UChicago take a 2-0 lead at half.

Junior forward Max Lopez added to his team and league-best goal tally in the 58th, scoring on a header in the box after sophomore teammate Dayo Adeosun delivered a perfect free kick.

The Maroons dominated the shot total, 24-5, including a 13-4 advantage on goal. Junior Matthew Koh led the way with six shots and Romero added five. UChicago also won the battle in corner kicks, 9-2.

First-year keeper Aaron Katsimpalis recorded his first-career win and shutout for UChicago, stopping four shots in all 90 minutes in goal.

NYU fell to 8-6-1 overall and 0-5 in UAA play with the loss.
