Nik Angyal, a senior at the University of Rochester, is the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.

Angyal, majoring in Chemical Engineering, currently carries a 4.00 GPA. He was presented with the award during the men's soccer banquet on Thursday evening in Greensboro, North Carolina, site of this weekend's Division III men's and women's soccer championships.

Angyal becomes Rochester's first ever Elite 90 recipient in any sport.

He has also earned a multitude of other academic and athletic awards during his Yellowjacket career.  In 2017, he was named a Google Cloud Division III 2nd Team Academic All-American.  He is a three-time UAA All-Academic Team member and has been honored already this year as a Google Cloud 1st Team Academic All-District honoree, and is on the national ballot to again be named an Academic All-American.

On the field, Angyal excelled on defense for the Yellowjackets, starting all 20 games so far this season, contributing six assists while helping the UR defense hold 18 of 20 opponents to one goal or less.  He earned Honorable Mention All-UAA accolades and was recently a United Soccer Coaches 3rd Team All-UAA selection.

The Yellowjacket men's soccer team is participating in its first ever Division III Final Four this weekend and will play #2 ranked Tufts University in the semifinals on Friday afternoon at 1:45 pm at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.

Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
