New York University's men's swimming & diving team finished
the second day of the University Athletic Association (UAA)
Championships on Thursday. The meet is being held over four days
this Wednesday through Saturday, February 11-14, at Emory
University's Madeline Jude Brown Aquatic Center in Atlanta, GA.
The Violets finished the day in fourth place (386.5 points) of
eight teams. Host Emory sits in first with 477.5 points.
Senior captain Jerry Crowley won the 50-yard
freestyle with a time of 20.13, breaking the NYU and UAA records.
Andrew Lardiere set the previous NYU and UAA records of 20.16
during the 2008-09 season.
"I am really excited with the start to the meet," said Head
Coach Trevor Miele. "I believe we will continue to
get faster as the meet progresses, and I'm really looking forward
to having a big day tomorrow."
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Freshman Chad Moody,
sophomore Daniel Tay, junior Win Htet
Oo, and Crowley participated on the record-breaking 200-yard
freestyle relay team (1:21.95), which broke the previous record of
1:22.00 set during the 2007-08 season. A new record was also set in
the 400-yard medley relay (3:20.15) by freshman Adam
Betts, senior captain Matt Kendall, Tay, and
Crowley. Both relay teams achieved NCAA-qualifying
times.
- Moody also broke the NYU 100-yard backstroke record with his
NCAA-qualifying time of 49.78 when he led off the 400-yard medley
relay team (3:25.16).
- Sophomore Phillip Kang finished third in the
200-yard individual medley (1:51.91), breaking the previous NYU
record of 1:52.79.
- Sophomores Ethan Louie (4:38.56)
and Max Phillips (4:33.92) both achieved
NCAA-qualifying scores in the 500-yard freestyle.
