Two New York University men's swimming & diving team members earned All-America honors during the final heats of the third day of the NCAA Division III Championships. The meet is being held from Wednesday-Saturday, March 18-21, at the Conroe CISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, TX.

The Violets are currently in 10th place of 51 teams with 98 points. Kenyon College is in first place with 348 points.

"Another great night of racing," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We seem to be swimming better and better as the meet goes on, and I'm really looking forward to finishing strong tomorrow."

Matt Kendall finished the 100-yard breaststroke finals in sixth place overall with a NYU record-breaking time of 55.04, besting the record of 55.39 that he set during preliminaries this morning. The senior captain received All-America honors and earned 13 of the Violets' 98 points with this performance.

"It's pretty nice to be swimming well in my last meet," said Kendall. "I really wanted to turn out a 54, but I can't complain since I got so close."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Freshman Adam Betts (49.39) placed seventh overall in the 100-yard backstroke finals, earning All-America honors and 12 points for NYU.

- During preliminaries, sophomores Daniel Tay (1:51.12) and Phillip Kang (1:51.47) participated in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing 20th and 26th, respectively. Tay's time broke the previous NYU record of 1:51.54, which was set by freshman Sean Haechler earlier this season.

"Kendall's swim was outstanding today. He's worked so hard over the past three years, so it was awesome to see him up on the podium tonight," added Miele. "It was also pretty incredible to see Betts go into the meet ranked in the low 20s then place in the top eight."
