Rochester Breaks Another Distance Swimming Record

From University of Rochester Athletics

Freshman Elliott Schwinn broke his second distance swimming record of the young season on Saturday afternoon as Rochester competed against Hartwick College.

The Hawks defeated the Yellowjackets, 145.5-142.5, to remain unbeaten at 4-0. Rochester is 1-3 after opening the season last week against NYU, Canisius College, and Brandeis.

Schwinn was clocked in 9:58.72 in the 1,000 yard freestyle. That was 42 one-hundreds of a second faster than Oliver Geiger's clocking of 9:59.14 two years ago at the UAA championships. Schwinn was also victorious in the 500 free in a time of 4:52.19.

Gunnar Zemering was a double winner for the Yellowjackets, winning both sprint freestyles. He was first in the 50 free (:21.33) and first in the 100 free (:47.88).  He anchored the runnerup 400 free relay (3:17.55), swimming with Danny Aronson, A.J. Brewer, and Eric Feirouz.

Dylan Sharkey had a first (200 free – 1:46.19) and a second (200 IM – 2:00.31). Dan Myers was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.05) and fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.01).

Rochester won both diving boards. Kasper Moczulski was first on the three meter board (221.70) and second on the one meter board (163.90). Erik Rosenkranz was first on the one meter (215.75) and second on the three meter (174.35).
