Stephen Savchik Shines In Rochester Win Over Nazareth

Behind the strength of winning 11 of the 18 events, the University of Rochester men's swimming and diving team dispatched Nazareth College 170-118 on Saturday afternoon at Nazareth College.

Diver Stephen Savchik had the best day of anyone, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, one of which was in school record fashion.  Savchik won the 1-meter, 6-dive event with a score of 301.27 which sets an new Rochester record, breaking the mark of 289.12 set last year by Kasper Moczulski.  The score also was Savchik's second NCAA Zone qualifying score, allowing the freshman to compete at the NCAA Regionals next month.  He also captured 1st place in the 3-meter event, scoring 261.52 points.

Arlen Fan was a triple winner for Rochester, winning the 50 and 100 meter breaststroke events along with swimming on UR's 1st place 400 medley relay.  Fan won in the 50 breast in a time of 25.23 seconds and touched first in the 100 in 1:05.98.  He, along with Connor Virgile, Lee Stovall and Alden Brewer were first in the medley relay in a time of 4:03.60. 

Rochester also had 1-2 finishes in two events, with Eric Feirouz and Eric Weidman taking the top two spots in the 200 meter freestyle with times of 2:03.89 and 2:06.23 respectively.  Brewer and Evan Villafranca also accomplished that feat in the 50 meter butterfly, with Brewer clocking in at 26.24 seconds and Villafranca finishing right behind in 27.62 seconds.

Other winners on the day were Weidman in the 400 freestyle (4:25.00), Villafranca in the 50 freestyle (25.23) and Elliot Schwinn in the 800 freestyle (8:46.72).  The 400 freestyle relay team of Brewer, Paul Steve, Joshua Dennis and Feirouz was 2nd in a time of 3:59.99.
