From University of Rochester Athletics
Elliot Schwinn and Eric Sonheim were double individual winners on Saturday as the University of Rochester men's swimming and diving team split a double-dual meet with Canisius College and Brandeis University.
Rochester defeated Brandeis, 194-87 and lost to Canisius, 201-97. Canisius defeated Brandeis, 238-58. As in past years, every event was scored straight up: first, second, third, etc. Points were awarded based on how schools compared with each other. In a race won by Rochester with Canisius second and third, and Brandeis fourth, in the UR-Brandeis pairing, Rochester received points for a first place finish and Brandeis earned second place points.
Sonheim won the 100 freestyle (:48.03) and the 200 freestyle (1:45.86). Schwinn took first place honors in the 1,650 freestyle (16:55.37) and the 400 IM (4:21.19).
The other individual highlights among the men included a third place finish by Connor Virgile in the 100 backstroke (:55.75), a third place finish by Miles Markey (1:30.48) in the 100 breaststroke with Nolan Kearns right behind him in fourth (1:03.72).
Danny Aronson and Alden Brewer were 4-5 in the 50 freestyle (Aronson :22.36, Brewer :22.42). Eric Feirouz was third in the 200 backstroke (2:01.39) . Virgile was fourth (2:02.87). Markey was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.46). Naoki Toyomura was third (2:26.57). Eric Weidman was second in the 500 free (5:03.62) and Brewer was third in the 100 fly (:53.39).
The closing 200 free relay of Evan Villafranca, Sonheim, Aronson, and Brewer was second overall in 1:27.71.
Diver Stephen Savchik was fourth on the three-meter board (242.65) and third on the one meter board (254.35).
