NYU Defeats Bridgeport

The New York University men's swimming & diving team defeated the University of Bridgeport 179-73 on Saturday, January 27, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.

NYU improved to 7-1 on the season, while the Knights saw their overall record drop to 1-3.

Seniors Sean Haechler, Ian Rainey, and Tim Kou celebrated Senior Day with a pair of individual victories each. Haechler won the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.03) and 100-yard butterfly (51.55), Rainey was victorious in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:32.88) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.49), and Kou triumphed in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.17) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.24). 

"We closed out our dual-meet season on a strong note, and it was great to see them perform so well, especially the seniors," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "We're in a really solid position heading into the UAA's."

HIGHLIGHTS\

- The all-senior 200-yard medley relay team of Haechler, Chad Moody, Kou, and Joe Baron won in a time of 1:33.06.

- Moody was also victorious in the 100-yard backstroke (50.77), while Baron took the 50-yard freestyle (21.40).

- Fellow senior Connor Brisson captured both the one-meter (387.53) and three-meter (328.50) diving competitions.

"We've had the best two weeks of training ever and it certainly showed today," said Diving Coach Todd Kolean. "All the divers did their championship diving list, and I'm excited to go to the UAA's."

- William Looney won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:43.05.

- Nianzhong Liu was also a double-winner for NYU, capturing the 100-yard freestyle (47.21) and 200-yard freestyle (1:42.11).
