Divers Lead Way For Yellowjackets On Day Two of UAA Championships

The men's swimming and diving team took to the pool for the first time at the UAA Championships on Thursday and came away with some solid performances in the preliminary heats.
 
Overall, the Yellowjackets have seven athletes or relays who qualified for the evening finals on day two of the competition hosted at Emory University's Brown Aquatic Center.
 
Leading the way were divers Max Adler and Stephen Savchik.  Both posted an NCAA Zone Diving qualifying score and were 4th and 6th respectively after the prelims in the competition.  Alder's score was 449.00 while Savchick scored a 440.00. At the finals in the evening session, Adler finished fourth overall with a score of 466.05. Savchik dove to a seventh place finish, tallying 424.20.
 
Junior Danny Aronson was UR's top individual swimmer in the morning, qualifying 16th in the 50 freestyle event, clocking in with a time of 21.37 seconds.  Teammate Erik Rosenkranz just missed finals, touching in 28th with a mark of 21.73 seconds. Aronson finished 16th in the 50 finals, getting to the wall in :21.53.
 
Aronson was also a part of Rochester's top relay team in the 200 freestyle relay which touched in 1:26.65, a time which was 9th fastest.  Joining him were Eric Sonheim, Rosenkranz and Evan Villafranca.  UR's 'B' relay of Miles Markey, Liam Bethlendy, Eric Albuquerque and Joshua Dennis earned a time of 1:30.66. The A relay finished seventh in 1:26.18 at night, the B relay was clocked in 1:28.85 (15th). At night, the B relay was Dennis, Lee Stovall, Paul Steve, and Albuquerque. The A relay stayed the same.
 
The Yellowjackets had two qualifiers for the finals in the 500 freestyle.  Junior Elliot Schwinn was 17th after prelims with a time of 4:41.76, while classmate Eric Feirouz was 22nd in 4:42.75. Feirouz finished 22nd in 4:42.38. Schwinn was 24th in 4:46.86.
 
First-year Eric Chang ended 29th and was UR's top finisher in the 200 IM with his time of 1:57.51.

The 400 medley A relay was eighth: Chang, Arlen Fan, Stovall, and Albuquerque got there in 3:30.49.The B relay was timed in 3:33.41 (Connor Virgile, Markey, Steve, and Sonheim.)
