The New York University men's swimming & diving team opened its 2018-19 season on Saturday, October 6, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan and defeated Division II West Chester University 194-95.

Peyton Lucas won a pair of events on Saturday, taking home the 500-yard freestyle in 4:48.12 and the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:52.98.

"Both of his races were impressive," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "He had a plan going into each race and executed well. He finished them both off very strong."

Nianzhong Liu won a pair of individual races as well, earning the title in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.16 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.27.

On the diving boards, Cole Vertin swept the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, with scores of 285.60 and 288.68, respectively.

NYU is slated to return to action on Saturday, October 20, when it hosts Rowan University back at the Palladium pool. Diving will kick things off at 11:30am, with swimming to follow at 1pm.

"Today was a great gage to see where we are at," concluded Miele. "We have a lot of work ahead of us, but based on today's performances, we are right on track."
