The Washington University in St. Louis men's swimming and diving program totaled 11 first-place finishes out of 12 events in a win over Saint Louis University in the season-opening meet during Pink Out Night.

The Bears men finished the meet with 126 points to outscore SLU (92). 

Men

Senior Kevin Van Cleave and junior Chase Van Patten each had two first place finishes individually and combined efforts with junior Jerry Chen and senior Brandon Lum in the Bears win in the 400-medley relay (3:21.62).

Van Cleave won the 200 IM (1:53.10) and the 100 breaststroke (57.09). Van Patten won the 50 freestyle (21.67) and 100 freestyle (46.73).

Chen was also victorious in the 100 backstroke (50.78), earning the victory over SLU's T.J. Halliburton (51.30). Lum won the 100 butterfly (49.92) by a half of a second ahead of the Billikens runner up.

Multiple Bears freshmen took first place finishes in their first collegiate meets including Jack Smithson in the 1,000 freestyle (9:49.52) and Alexander Luga in the 500 freestyle (4:47.13).  Sophomore Matthew Grottkau won the lone dive of the night, the one-meter (186.52).

The WashU men closed out the night with an electric first place finish in the 200-freestyle relay. Junior Simon Deshusses, junior Preston Bailey, junior David Motch and senior Andrew Pek claimed the win by .04 seconds.
