Emory University men's tennis player Ian Wagner has
been recognized for his accomplishments both in the classroom and
on the court by earning a spot on the Capital One Academic
All-District Men's At-Large Team. Voting for the Academic
All-District team is conducted by the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Wagner has been a mainstay in both the singles and doubles lineups
for the No. 6-ranked and NCAA quarterfinal-bound Eagles, compiling
a 24-5 singles slate, with his victory total a team high, along
with a 17-11 mark in doubles. He has captured six of his last
seven singles contests at the No. 4 spot including decisions over
opponents from North Carolina Wesleyan and Kenyon College during
the opening rounds of the NCAA Championships last weekend in
Lexington, Virginia. Last spring, he and Elliot Kahler teamed
up to become the program's first-ever doubles team to win the NCAA
championship.
Named the recipient of Emory University's Sonny Carter Scholarship
in mid-April, based on his academic, athletic and community
achievements during his career, Wagner claims an outstanding GPA of
3.89 as a physics and mathematics major.
Tennis is one of 12 sports included in the Men's At-Large
