CWRU Sweeps Singles Matches in Wins Over Allegheny and Rochester

The No. 8 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team won all six singles matches each in wins over Allegheny College and UAA rival University of Rochester at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club.

In the opening match of the day, the Spartans won two-of-three doubles matches before capturing all six singles matches in an 8-1 win over Allegheny. The Spartans fell behind the Yellowjackets 2-1 after doubles, before running off six more singles victories, including three in three sets.

Against the Gators, junior CJ Krimbill (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain), senior Will Drougas (Roanoke, Va./Salem), and junior Louis Stuerke (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) each earned a pair of wins.

Krimbill and Stuerke teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while Drougas and freshman Andrew Komarov (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) picked up an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

Krimbill dropped only three games in his straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, Drougas won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Stuerke earned a point at No. 4 singles by a 6-1, 6-3 score.

Junior Viswajit Simhadri (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) and sophomore Joshua Dughi (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) each dropped only four total games in victories at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Sophomore Tytus Chen rallied from a set down to post a 3-6, 6-1, 10-5 win at No. 5 singles.

Against the Yellowjackets, Krimbill and Stuerke earned the Spartans' only doubles point with an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles. Krimbill tied the match quickly with his 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles. Drougas followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles to give the Spartans a 3-2 lead.

Chen won the final three games of his match for a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles and Stuerke clinched the match with his 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles.

Simhadri and Dughi each bounced back from first set defeats to take their matches at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Simhadri won 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, while Dughi earned the seventh Spartan point with his 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 win.

With his four wins on the day, Krimbill moved into a tie for second place all-time at CWRU with 139 wins (64 singles, 75 doubles), tying Kyle Gerber and moved within one win of tying former doubles partner Eric Klawitter for the all-time program mark.

Drougas earned his 73rd and 74th career singles victories, moving him within one of tying Klawitter for the program's all-time record for singles wins.
