CWRU to Host 2016 ITA Division III National Indoor Men's Tennis Championship

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

For the second time in three years, Case Western Reserve University will serve as host of the ITA Division III National Men’s Team Indoor Championship next season. The tournament, which annually features eight of the top men’s tennis programs in Division III, will be held Feb.19-21.

“The 2016 ITA Division III National Men's Team Indoor Championship hosted by Case Western Reserve University will once again bring the very best collegiate men's tennis players to Cleveland,” said Amy Backus, Director of Athletics and Chair of Physical Education at CWRU. “We are absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to share this championship with the community. The Dickenson Group, LLC has stepped forward as our presenting sponsor for which we are most appreciative. Their support in bringing the championship back to CWRU allows our Spartan student athletes to compete against the very best in the nation in our own backyard.”

The tournament began in 2001 and its six champions include four-time champion Emory University and 2014 champion Washington University from the UAA. Trinity (TX) University captured the 2015 title, topping Emory in the final. All eight teams in last year’s tournament were ranked in the top-14 in the nation, including six in the top-10.

“We were fortunate to have a sponsor in David Dickenson allow us the necessary budget to be able to make it an amazing event,” said Spartan head coach Todd Wojtkowski. “I believe this is a very positive thing for the tennis community in Cleveland. In 2014, we had hundreds of spectators join in the event and I expect it will continue to grow in interest for our tennis community. We are also fortunate that the USTA Midwest has chosen to adopt this tournament again and will be providing many valuable resources for the event, including an information session for high school tennis players aspiring to play college tennis.”
