The New York University men's tennis team defeated the University of Rochester 6-3 in the final round of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Sunday, April 26. The competition was held at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.

After dropping the first doubles match, the #8-seeded Violets earned victories at #2 and #3 doubles over the #7-seeded Yellowjackets to head into singles play with a lead.

In singles play, NYU held on by winning four of the six matches as junior Sidd Thangirala (#1), senior CJ Leong (#2), sophomore Matt DeMichiel (#5), and senior Billy Smithline (#6) earned victories. The Violets finished their season with a 4-9 record, while the Yellowjackets finish at 8-11.

"This was a nice way to finish the season," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "We turned around from a loss to them earlier this year to win pretty comfortably today."

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- This was the last collegiate competition for NYU's two seniors, Leong and Smithline. Both players won their singles match, while Leong also won at #3 doubles.

"I'm happy for CJ and Billy," added Choy. "I'm glad they ended their careers with victories."
