#32 Brandeis Edges #22 Bates, 5-4

The #32 Brandeis men's tennis team pulled out a hard-fought victory today, edging #22 Bates College, 5-4, indoors. The Judges improve to 7-3, and the Bobcats drop to 5-5.

Rookie Jackson Kogan (Pacific Palisades, Calif. / Windward School) clinched the victory with a thrilling three-set match against Bates's Josh Quijano. Kogan won the No. 6 singles duel 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. It was the Judges' first triumph this season that came down to the final match; Brandeis had been 0-2 in such situations.

Brandeis lost its first two in doubles action, both 8-6. Sophomore Eric Goldberg (Solon, Ohio / Solon) and junior Brian Granoff (Miami, Fla. / Gulliver Prep) won the battle at No. 3, 9-7, scoring the last two points.

In singles action, Bates took No. 1, 6-4, 6-3. Granoff won at No. 2, 6-4, 6-3, and  junior Michael Arguello (Brentwood, Tenn. / Brentwood) came back to win in three sets at No. 3, 3-6, 6-4, 5-7. Rookie Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) triumphed at No. 4, 6-4, 6-2, for the Judges' fourth point.

The Bobcats' Pat Ordway won the No. 5 matchup in three sets against senior Danny Lubarsky (Cleveland, Ohio / Hawken School), setting the stage for Kogan's theatrics.
