No. 7 Tartans Top Shoremen 9-0

The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked seventh nationally, hosted the Shoremen of Washington College on Friday, April 1. In the Tartans first match since their west coast trip, The Cardinal and Gray defeated the Shoremen 9-0. The win moves Carnegie Mellon's dual match record to 10-5 while Washington is now 2-7.

Senior duo of Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) and Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) grabbed the Tartans first point of the match with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles. The freshmen tandem of Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) and Vayum Arora(Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose) won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. Junior Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and sophomore Jeffrey Chen (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) finished the sweep in doubles play with an 8-2 win at No. 2.

Arora gave the Tartans a 4-0 lead with a straight set victory at No. 3 singles winning 6-2, 6-2. Alla sealed the victory with a straight set victory of his own with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.

Carnegie Mellon picked up straight set wins at No. 2 No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Levine won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2, junior Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep) won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4, freshman Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) was victorious 6-1, 6-0 in the fifth spot and Zheng won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
