Five UAA Teams Earn Bids to NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship; All Five to Host Regional

Five UAA teams have been selected to host a regional in the 2016 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships, led by top-ranked and Association champion Emory University.

The Eagles (20-3 overall) have not dropped a match to a Division III opponent this season and will host a five-team regional. Emory will open its post-season by facing the winner of the first-round matchup between North Carolina Wesleyan University and Washington & Lee University. The other second-round contest will pit Trinity University against Sewanee The University of the South.

UAA runner-up and sixth-ranked Washington University (16-5) will host a regional and play the winner of the Grinnell College vs. Edgewood College first-round contest. University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will face off in the second round.

Fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University (16-6), which has won 10 of its last 11 matches and placed third in the UAA championship after being seeded fifth, will also host a regional. The Tartans receive a first-round bye and will play the winner of the match between Yeshiva University and Goucher College in the second round. Johns Hopkins University and Gwynned Mercy University will meet in the first round with the victor to face University of Mary Washington.

Eighth-ranked University of Chicago (15-5), which finished fourth in the UAA tournament, will host a five-team regional. The Maroons earned an opening-round bye and will face the winner of the first-round match between Carthage College and John Carroll University. Gustavus Adolphus College and Coe College meet in the other second round match.

Seventh-ranked Case Western Reserve University (21-7), which won its last two Association matches to place fifth, will host a regional and earn a bye into the second round. The Spartans play the winner of the Franciscan University vs. Grove City College match. Kalamazoo College and Messiah College play in the opening round with the winner to meet Kenyon College.

UAA teams earned four of the five at-large bids into the NCAA Championship.
