Chicago Earns Spot in NCAA Postseason

The University of Chicago men's tennis team earned an at-large berths into the NCAA Division III Tennis Championship for the second consecutive year on Monday.

The single-elimination tournament will feature the opening three rounds played at regional sites this weekend. Kalamazoo College will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 23-28 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamzaoo, Mich. Student-athletes selected to the individual championships will be announced Wednesday, May 11.

In the men's draw, UChicago returns to the NCAAs for the second-straight season and fourth time overall. The program's first trip to nationals happened in 2005. The men's team bracket includes 43 teams at eight separate regionals.

UChicago will host a five-team regional on Friday-Sunday, Mary 13-15 at the Stagg Field tennis courts. The hosts earned a first-round bye and will take on the winner of Carthage College (21-6) versus John Carroll University (14-7) on Saturday. In the other half of the regional, Gustavus Adolphus College (23-7) will face Coe College (22-6). Earlier this season, UChicago defeated Gustavus Adolphus 7-2 and Coe 9-0.

The Maroon men take a 15-5 season record and a No. 8 national ranking into the weekend action. UChicago placed fourth at the UAA Championship. Last year, the men posted their best season ever by finishing fourth at the NCAA Championship. The Maroons are 4-4 all-time in postseason play.
