The No. 2-ranked Emory men's tennis team opened the ITA National Indoor Championships with a quarterfinal-round victory over Trinity Friday morning.  The Eagles upped their spring record to 3-2 following a 7-2 triumph over the No. 14 Tigers who fell to 3-4. The ITA National Indoor Championships are being held at the Cleveland Racquet Club in Pepper Pike, Ohio.

Emory had to rally for the win after trailing by a 2-1 count following doubles.  After the Tigers had taken a 2-0 edge following victories at the Nos. 3 and 1 spots, the Eagles' No. 2 tandem of sophomore Adrien Bouchet and freshman Max Renke accounted for the team's first point with a come-from-behind 9-8 verdict against Jordan Pitts and Liam Crawley. Bouchet and Renke trailed, 7-8, before knotting the score and forcing a tiebreaker, where they prevailed, 7-4.

Emory was dominant in singles, winning all six matches, with five of those being decided in straight sets. Sophomore James Spaulding evened the match after topping Crawley, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4, before Bouchet earned a 6-2, 6-2 verdict over Pitts at No. 3. At the No. 1 post, senior Aman Manji put Emory to within one point of sealing the match, besting Wilson Lamberth, 6-2, 6-4.  Sophomore Jonathan Jemison notched the deciding point at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph vs. Chas Meyer for his fifth win in as many outings this spring. Other Emory winners included junior Alec Josepher at No. 5 and senior Josh Goodman at No. 6.
