CWRU Defeats Wabash 8-1

The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team, ranked 15th in Division III, defeated Wabash College, 8-1, on Saturday morning at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio.

Case Western Reserve claimed two of the three doubles matches in the early contest against Wabash, with sophomores Sam Concannon and Anthony Kanam defeating Jordan Greenwell and Kirill Ivanchenko 8-2 at no. 2 doubles, and sophomore Zach Hennessey and freshman Neil Mabee claiming an 8-2 win over Andrew Denning and George Go III at no. 3 doubles.  The Spartans' lone loss in the match came at no. 1 doubles, where senior James Fojtasek and sophomore Matthew Chen fell to William Reifeis and Patrick McAuley 8-5.

CWRU would go on to sweep the six singles matches, with five of the six wins coming in straight sets.  Chen set the tone at first singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Reifeis, while sophomore Siddharth Rajupet defeated McAuley 7-6, 6-1 at no. 2 singles.  At third singles, Concannon earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Greenwell, with Kanam utilizing three sets for a win over Ivanchenko, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 in the fourth singles match.  Rounding out the singles sweep were sophomore Henry Squire with a 6-, 6-1 win over Nicholas Pollock in the fifth match, and freshman Earl Hsieh with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Go III in the sixth contest.

Wabash fell to 2-3 on the year with the loss.
