No. 1 Emory Tops Rhodes

The Emory men's tennis team made a successful return to its home courts on Saturday, registering an Atlantic South Region win over Rhodes College. The Eagles boosted their record to 9-2 following a 9-0 decision over the Lynx who slipped to 8-5.

The Eagles seized control of the match by winning all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of senior Scott Rubinstein and James Spaulding notched the initial point of the afternoon with an 8-5 win over PJ Shaw and Sairam Gudiseva, upping their season record to 13-6. At second doubles, junior Jonathan Jemison and freshman Hayden Cassone won for the ninth time in 10 decisions with an 8-3 outcome against Andrew Morton and Sean Hogan. Closing out the sweep at No. 3 was the senior tandem of Max Renke and Andrew Harrington with an 8-4 victory vs. Ritwik Chatterjee and Phil Lauture.

Spaulding pushed Emory to a 4-0 advantage with a 6-2, 6-0 verdict over Gudiseva at six singles, his seventh win of the campaign in 11 decisions. Shortly after, Cassone's 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 clinched the outcome in Emory's favor. Cassone stands 16-3 on the year and 8-1 in the spring. Other singles winners included Jemison at No. 1 (6-4, 6-1), senior Alec Josepher at No. 3 (6-1, 6-0), Harrington at No. 4 (6-1, 6-1) and Rubinstein at No. 5 (6-0, 6-2).
