NYU Finishes Day One at Stevens Invitational

From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's tennis team completed its first day of play at the Stevens Singles Invitational on Saturday, September 23, in Hoboken, NJ.

Competing in their final tournament before the ITA Northeast Regionals, the Violets finished their first day of play with a 10-5 record against opponents from host Stevens Institute of Technology and the College of New Jersey.

Senior Umberto Setter led the way for NYU. The Bedano, Switzerland, native began the day by defeating TCNJ's Tim Gavornik 6-1, 6-1, and later beat Stevens' Danny Polk 6-4, 7-6 (4).

"Umberto is picking up where he left off last year," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "He's going to be one of the top seeds at the ITA's, and we hope his strong play carries over into next week."

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

- Sophomore Joshua Piatos, and freshmen Justin Chong and Aaron Mackie also finished the day with 2-0 records.

- Freshmen Rahul Das and Stefan Rodic picked up the final two wins for the Violets.

"We had many solid results," added Choy. "We're looking to build on this for tomorrow."
