George Degen Sets Carnegie Mellon Record at Bucknell Distance Carnival

At the Bucknell University Distance Carnival on Saturday afternoon in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team set career marks with senior George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) topping a school record.

Sophomore Owen Norley (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) placed third in the 1,500-meter run in a career-best time of 3:55.62 as he won his heat. Junior Marc-Daniel Julien (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) was fifth in his heat and 29th overall in 4:00.04, which is a season-best.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Curtis Watro (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) finished 12th overall in a season-best time of 9:41.26.

Sophomore Ryan Archer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) led a pack of Tartans in the 5,000-meter run, placing fourth overall in 14:51.68. Freshman Ryan Auld (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) finished 17th in 15:03.52 while junior Brian Bollens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) was 22nd overall in 15:05.00. All three recorded career-best marks. Joining in the race and also recording a career-best was senior Eamon Cullinane (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) in a time of 15:06.47.

Degen closed the meet with a seventh-place showing in the 10,000-meter run, topping the school record with a time of 30:13.03, bettering his previous best by more than 38 seconds.
