The New York University men's track & field team competed in the Coach Pollard Invitational hosted by Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA, on Saturday, April 14.

In the final event of the meet, NYU's 4x400m relay squad secured second place with their season-best run on Saturday night. Malcolm Montilus, Julian Montilus, Vince Booth and Soham Kamat teamed up to clock a time of 3:20.99, nearly 20 seconds better than their original season-best time.

"Putting all those guys together today, I am not surprised they got second," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault.

The Violets produced bronze-medal results from two of their distance runners early on Saturday. In his first collegiate 3,000m steeplechase, senior Jordan Reyes captured third with a time of 10:00.11. Fellow classmate Sam Praveen finished sixth by recording a time of 10:44.69, while sophomore Yuji Cusick followed behind in ninth (10:57.81) in his first collegiate attempt at the event as well.

"That was exciting seeing Jordan have a great performance in a new event," said Hurtault. "We think it is something he can put his mark on."

Freshman Dillon Spector took third in the 5,000m, pacing his team with a time of 15:47.17. Close behind in fifth place was junior Julian Marrufo, who registered a time of 16:07.00. Finishing at each other's heels were seniors Grant Allington and Robert Beit in ninth (16:19.47) and 10th (16:21.16) place, respectively.

"He (Spector) is one of the best freshmen we have on this team," said Hurtault. "He ran well even after doing 5k's back-to-back. Sometimes that is tougher for the younger athletes, but he is adapting well."

The distance runners continued their success in the 1,500m. Senior Karn Setya placed fifth in the event by recording a season-best time of 4:01.80. Not far behind were senior Robert DeSisto and sophomore Ben Karam in seventh (4:02.76) and ninth (4:05.89) place, respectively.

In the sprinting events, senior Malcolm Montilus provided another highlight with a fifth-place performance in the 400m dash. The Mendham, NJ, native posted a time of 49.30. Trailing behind were the sophomore-freshman duo of Grayson Hepp and Shawn Andrade in 25th (personal-best 51.80) and 32nd (season-best 52.60) place, respectively.

In the field, William Lee took sixth in the high jump. The junior from New York, NY, tied his season-best height of 1.90m.
