NYU Finishes Seventh at UAA Championships

From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's track & field team completed its stay at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships in seventh place. The competition was held on Saturday-Sunday, April 28-29, at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.

NYU compiled 56 points in the seven-team field. Washington University in St. Louis took the title with 248 points.

The Violets' Malcolm Montilus capped off his UAA career with two silver medals. The senior sprinter recorded a career-best time of 48.92 to take second behind Brandeis University's Irie Gourde (48.32) in the 400m. The Mendham, NJ, native later returned to the track to team up with junior Soham Kamat, senior Vince Booth and his younger brother Julian Montilus in the 4x400m relay, the final event of the day. The squad produced its best time of the season (3:19.91) and placed second.

The elder Montilus also scored for the Violets with a seventh-place finish in the 200m (23.44).

Earlier in the day, Booth also competed in the 800m. The native of Lombard, IL, finished fifth and registered a time of 1:55.22 to score four points for NYU. The senior qualified for the finals with his personal-best time of 1:54.71 in the preliminaries on Saturday.

Junior William Lee also found a spot on the podium. The New York, NY, native claimed the bronze with his season-tying high jump of 1.90m. Last year, Lee won the event with a program-record 2.02m leap.
