Elijah Sech Breaks 24-Year Carnegie Mellon Record in Steeplechase at Bison Open

The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team had eight members compete at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic over the weekend.

Performances:

  • Senior Elijah Sech broke the school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase when he crossed the finish line with a time of 9:03.87 and placed fifth overall in a field of 59 runners and was the second Division III runner to cross. He broke Kristo Kriechbaum's record of 9:04.98 which was set in 1999.
  • Junior David Durdaller also ran in the steeplechase and crossed with a personal-best time of 9:11.43. Durdaller placed eighth overall and was the third Division III runner to cross.
  • Sophomores Colin McLaughlin and Aleksei Seletskiy ran the 1,500-meter race and finished with times of 3:49.74 and 3:50.37. It was a personal-best time for McLaughlin.
  • The 5,000-meter race had junior Jacob Hsu cross the line with a personal-best time of 14:45.54 while sophomore Matthew Coyle finished in 14:41.72.
  • Junior Alex Ivanov and senior Leland Davies competed in the 800-meter run and crossed with personal-best times of 1:50.21 and 1:53.15, respectively. Ivanov was the first Division III runner to finish and sixth overall in a field of 189.
