The Washington University in St. Louis men's track and field team sits in second place with 65.50 points following day one of the UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosting by the University of Chicago.
 
First-year Hayden Kunkel won the pole vault, clearing 4.65m which ranks 10th in program history. Junior Tommaso Maiocco took second with a clear of 4.50m while sophomore Loucas Xenakis cleared 4.35m for fourth place.
 
Senior Jeff Candell won the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:17.97. Senior Mason Wong finished seventh in 9:39.03.
 
Graduate Matt Moore finished second in the long jump, hitting a mark of 6.96m.
 
Junior Seif Elkhashab took fifth in the shot put, hitting a mark of 13.38m.
 
Junior Alex Djetto finished third in the 400m preliminaries with a time of 50.28 and senior Jackson Cox finished fourth with a time of 50.49. Sophomore Ryan Githuku also reached finals, racing a preliminary time of 50.75.
 
Moore finished second in the 100m preliminaries with a time of 10.95 to advance to tomorrow's final. He also finished second in the 200m preliminaries, racing to a time of 22.44.
 
Senior Arthur Santoro finished second in the 800m preliminaries with a time of 1:54.29 while junior William Houser finished third with a time of 1:53.83.
 
Junior Grant Lane took fifth in the 400m hurdles preliminaries, racing to a time of 57.76.
 
The Bears' team of Cox, Thomas Penney, Frankie Lunch and Santoro finished fourth in the 4x800 relay with a time of 7:52.92.
 
Senior Alexander Evans finished fifth in the 10,000m run with a time of 30:56.10. Sophomore Matthew Hornung took seventh in 31:03.35 and senior Matt Kusak finished eighth in 31:03.84.
