Washington Wins Illinois Wesleyan I-55 Triangular

The Washington University in St. Louis men's indoor track & field team won the I-55 Triangular for the fourth consecutive year.

In the fourth year of the meet's existence, the Washington U. men scored 111 points to defend their title at the meet for the fourth year in a row over the University of Chicago (90) and host Illinois Wesleyan (24). 

Seniors Nick Alaniva and Brendan Stone each posted a pair of first-place finishes for the Bears, who won 12 of the 16 events contested at the meet. Alaniva raced to first in the 60 with a time of 7.08, while junior Matt Goad placed third in 7.23. Alaniva added another first-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.38 meters. Junior Alex Arteaga took second with a leap of 6.20m.

Stone clocked a season-best time of 51.90 to win the men's 400. He also anchored the 1,600 relay to a first-place finish, teaming with juniors James Fitzhugh, Alex Bastian and Connor Furlong to clock a time of 3:25.87. It was the 14th fastest 1,600 relay time in NCAA Division III this season. Alaniva also cleared 4.42m in the pole vault to finish second in the Bears' first- through third-place sweep of the event. Senior Troy Makous equaled his season-best with a clearance of 4.42m to win the pole vault, and freshman Jacob Rother also equaled his season-best (4.27m) to place third.

Junior Joey Pasque won the men's high jump for the third meet in a row, with a season-best clearance of 2.01m. The mark tied him for second on Washington U.'s all-time indoor leaderboard with Dave Bolton (1980) and Ben Harmon (2010), and ranks 15th in NCAA Division III this season. Senior Ian Montague was the fourth field-event winner for the Washington U. men, placing first in the weight throw with a toss of 13.62m.

Washington won every race between 800 and 5,000 meters. Junior Britt Henderson led a first- through third-place sweep for the Bears in the 800, clocking a career-best time of 1:57.94. Bastian was second in 1:58.85, while sophomore Mike Sullivan took third with a career-best of 1:58.97. Junior Josh Clark won the 1,200 (3:06.07), and sophomore Brody Roush won the 5,000 (15:54.04). Junior Alex Goldberg placed third in the 5,000 in 16:03.19. Washington U. also placed first and second in the mile and 3,000. Senior Garrett Patrickwon the 3,000 in 8:52.74, while junior Adam Streicher shaved more than 16 seconds off his career-best to finish second in 8:53.04. Sophomore Dillon Williams (4:29.83) and junior Vince Stephen (4:33.21) took the top two spots in the mile.
