Brandeis Shines at Boston University and Tufts

The Brandeis track and field teams had one of their busiest weekends of the year this past weekend, sending runners to Boston University for the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Friday and Saturday, with several competitors also heading to Tufts on Sunday for the Tufts Stampede.

 MEN'S DISTANCE

  • Sophomores Ryan Stender (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) and Mitchell Hutton (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park) were the seventh and ninth Division III finishers in the 3,000-meter run. Stender won his heat with a time of 8:37.56, a whopping 24 seconds better than his previous career best. Hutton also set a p.r. in 8:39.40. Both qualified for ECAC and New England D3s in the process.
  • Senior Grady Ward (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) ran in the mile and was jostled a bit during his race, finishing with a time of 4:35.45.

MEN'S SPRINTS

  • Rookie Regan Charie (Topsfield, Mass. / Masconomet Reg.) won his heat in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.31 seconds, while his time of 22.72 seconds in the 200 dash qualified him for the New England Division III championships. Both times were p.r.s.
  • Classmate Henry McDonald (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) also had two indoor prs, running 23.03 n the 200 to win his hear, and 52.41 in the 400.
  • Junior Jeremy Wilson (Elizabeth, N.J. / Elizabeth) had a personal best in the 400 with a time of 52.60 seconds.
  • Senior Trevor Tuplin (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) ran 1:12.00 to finished 13th in D3 and set a PR in the 500.
  • Senior Matt Becker (Mendon, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional) was 15th in D3 in the 800m with a time of 1:59.42, also a personal best.
  • Becker, Wilson, Tuplin and McDonald were 13th in D3 in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:35.96.

MEN'S FIELD

  • Senior Adam Berger (Concord, N.H. / Concord) was second among D3 competitors at BU in the triple jump (12.88m) and fifth in the long jump (5.71m)
  • Junior Mark Franklin (Auburn, N.H. / Pinkerton Acad.) was fifth at Tufts in the high jump at 6-0. 
  • Senior Kevin Trotman (Bristol, Conn. / Taft School) had a p.r. in the shot put with a distance of 9.59 meters at Tufts.
