NYU Takes Part in Ramapo Invitational

The New York University men's track & field team participated in the Ramapo College Indoor Select on Saturday, January 30, at the Armory on 168th Street in Manhattan.

"We didn't have guys close to these times at this point last year," an excited Head Coach Will Boylan-Pett stated. "It is fun to see these guys get ready and come out and not only compete, but finish strong."

In a tight race throughout, junior Nick Karam placed fourth in the 3k in a career-best time of 8:28.13. Sophomore Max Mudd also clocked a personal-best time of 8:39.35 to finish seventh. Senior Daniel Rieger was the last Violet to finish, taking 14th with a time of 9:03.57.

"We knew Nick was in shape for this race from this week's workouts," said Boylan-Pett. "He faded a little bit. His legs were not completely fresh, but this was a huge step. He's going to be near the top of the UAA, and if this improvement continues NCAA's will be in his grasp. Max, as well, is taking steps we were hoping to see."

Senior Max Avila led the Violets with a ninth-place finish in the mile (4:25.73). Right on his heels was fellow senior Eddie Cruz-Desintonio in 11th place (4:27.97). Junior Pat Healey also competed in the mile, posting a time of 4:49.71 to claim 20th place.

In the 5k, the men were paced by sophomore Isaac Cohen who finished seventh in a time of 15:52.48. Classmate Grant Allington placed 13th in 16:25.97.

Junior Curtis Mann took ninth in the 800m with a career-best time of 1:58.68. Freshman Soham Kamat finished 12th (personal-best 2:00.25), while sophomore Vince Booth placed 23rd in 2:04.58.

"I'm hard on those 800m guys. I think they are ready to run faster," added Boylan-Pett. "However, they are getting indoor personal bests, so I cannot complain too much. We have been moving in the right direction ever since practices in early January. But we have some work to do, especially in the last 200 meters."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Freshman William Lee placed seventh in the high jump with a personal-best height of 1.83m.

- The NYU 4x400m team (Nick Torsitano, Mann, Kamat, Boothe) snatched third place with a time of 3:29.87.

- Junior Caleb Su finished 21st in the 200m with a time of 23.33, while freshman Harley Centner took 59th place (25.66).

"We are looking toward the Boston University Invite in two weeks and the UAA (University Athletic Association) Championships in four weeks," said Boylan-Pett. "We are just getting ready to go out there and race instead of being worried about times."
