Maroons Finish Sixth at Chicagoland Indoor Championships

The University of Chicago men's track and field team placed sixth out of 21 teams at the Chicagoland Indoor Championships on Saturday.

The group of schools participating included competitors from all three divisions of the NCAA. North Central College won the team title with 117 points while the Maroons were sixth with 38 points.

UChicago placed in the top five overall in five different events. Junior Nicholas Nielsen was the lead individual performer for the Maroons as he took third place in the one mile in a time of 4:21.41. Two relays also excelled – the distance medley relay took third place (10:31.01) and the 4x400-meter relay placed fourth (3:23.07). Senior Ben Clark ran the second leg of both relays.

Junior Gareth Jones raced the 5,000 meters in 15:00.69 to finish fourth. As well as running anchor leg on the 4x400-meter relay, sophomore Nathan Downey was fifth in the pole vault with a height of 4.58 meters.
