Judges Tie For Third at Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational

At the 14th annual Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational, the Brandeis University men's track and field team finished in third place at the first of two home meets for the Judges this season.

The men posted 70 points to tie with Merrimack just one behind cross-town rival Bentley (71), with USM claiming the title on the men's side with 158 points.

TOP PERFORMERS – MEN

  • Senior Irie Gourde (Portland, Ore./York School, Canada), in just his second-ever meet for the Judges, had three second-place finishes. In the 200-meter dash, he ran 23.13 seconds, while in the 400 he posted a time of 51.46 seconds, just eight-hundredths behind the winner from USM and ranked 33rd in Division III this season.
  • Gourde also led off a 4x400-meter relay with senior Jeremy Wilson (Elizabeth, N.J. / Elizabeth) and rookies Erez Needleman (Bronx, N.Y. / High School of American Studies at Lehman College) and Jacob Judd (West Hartford, Conn. / Conard) that finished second to Southern Maine with a time of 3:38.92.
  • Also turning in a runner-up finish was junior Mitchell Hutton (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park), who turned in a time of 8:47.46 in the 3,000-meter run, currently ranking him 15thin Division III this season.
  • Rookie Aaron Corin (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln Sudbury) placed second in the pole vault with a height of 3.80 meters (12 feet, 5 ½ inches), besting his previous career-high by just a shade less than a foot.
  • The Judges had two runners finish in third place behind Gourde in his two sprints. In the 200, sophomore Regan Charie (Topsfield, Mass. / Masconomet Reg.) posted a time of 23.75 seconds, while in the 400 it was rookie Churchill Perry (Pembroke Pines, Fla. / Westminster Academy) who was third in 52.14.
  • Charie scored in the 55-meter dash, where he was sixth in 6.87 seconds, while rookie Lorenzo Maddux was fourth in 6.76.
  • Juniors Brian Sheppard (Whitman, Mass. / Whitman-Hanson Reg.) and Roger LaCroix (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) were fourth and sixth, respectively, in the mile run with times of 4:33.44 and 4:36.68.
