Irie Gourde of Brandeis Cracks Top Five Division III Time in 400 Meters at Boston University

Irie Gourde posted a top-five NCAA performance as the Brandeis University men's track and field team competed at the Boston University Terrier Classic and the Tufts University Branwen Smith-King Invitational.

TOP FIVE NATIONAL MARK

  • Graduate student Irie Gourde (Portland, Ore./York Academy, Toronto) is now ranked fourth in Division III in the 400-meter run.
  • Gourde's time of 48.49 seconds was 10th overall at BU on Saturday, tops among Division III runners and sixth among NCAA competitors.
  • Gourde's time is the fastest in Division III this season, but is ranked fourth, with the three ahead of him adjusted for running on flat tracks as opposed to BU's banked surface.

OTHER TOP PERFORMER - BU

  • Sophomore Churchill Perry (Pembroke Pines, Fla. / Westminster Academy) turned in a nationally-ranked performance in the 400-meters at BU as well. He finished 20th overall in 49.54 seconds, good for 25th in Division III.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS – TUFTS

  • For the men, four athletes scored points at Tufts on Saturday.
  • Junior Regan Charie (Topsfield, Mass. / Masconomet Reg.) took fourth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.32 seconds. He also just missed a spot in the finals of the 60-meter dash, missing out by one-thousandth of a second with a time of 7.274 seconds.
  • In the 1000 meter run, rookie Jacob Judd (West Hartford, CT / Conard) and senior Max Whitmore (Wayne, N.J. / Newark Academy) finshed fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 2:36.64 and 2:37.09.
  • Sophomore Jack Allan (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.16 meters (20 feet, 2 ½ inches). He was just out of the top eight in the 60meter hurdles with a time of 8.96 seconds, missing the finals by five-hundredths of a second.
  • Rookie Breylen Ammen (Lincoln, Mass./Lincoln Sudbury Regional) snuck into scoring position in the pole vault with a height of 4.10 meters (13-5 ¼), tying for eighth place.
