Spartans Finish Second at All-Ohio Championships

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the 2018 All-Ohio Indoor Championships at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio on Saturday.

The Spartan men finished second out of 18 teams with 96 points, while the women finished in sixth place with 61 points.

Senior Sam Merriman highlighted the Spartans performances as he finished first in the 3,000-meter run with a school-record and meet-record time of 8:33.13. He breaks his previous school record of 8:36.44 set in 2017 and he breaks the previous meet record of 8:37.19 set by Caleb Muller of Marietta in 2013. Sophomore David Hallalso added a third-place finish in the event with a time of 8:55.54.

The men's distance medley relay team of senior Nicholas Knorz, sophomore Michael Hradesky, freshman Thomas Patton and senior James Gibson claimed a second-place finish in the event with a time of 10:33.93. Hradesky also teamed with senior Andrew Ibibo, sophomore Dominic Oddo and sophomore Jonathan Haling to finish fourth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:26.20.

Oddo earned a second-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.89 meters, while senior Zak Hurd finished third with a distance of 6.73 meters. Ibibo also added a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.46.
