Spartans Fall to Carnegie Mellon in 10th-Annual Battle for the Obelisk

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams combined for 133 team points, but fell to University Athletic Association rival Carnegie Mellon University in the 10th-Annual Battle for the Obelisk.

Sophomore Dominic Oddo earned the title in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.00 meters, a mark good enough for a new school record and meet record. Oddo surpassed his previous school record of 6.97 meters set earlier this indoor season. Oddo also added another first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.65.

With another meet record, senior Sam Merriman finished first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:43.90, besting the previous meet-record of 8:47.34 set in 2016.

Senior Andrew Ibibo was first to cross the finish line in both the 400-meter dash (50.56) and the 200-meter dash (23.15), while sophomore Michael Hradesky won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.05.

To close the evening, the men's 4x400-meter relay team finished first. Ibibo, Hradesky, senior Grant Mlack and sophomore Jonathan Haling crossed the line with a time 3:25.57.
